Nooky Gossip 32! Kids Rooms Interior Design Trends! Fusion Mineral Paint! Tones for Tots! Dixie Belle Chalk Paints! Harry Potter Chest Of Drawers!
A silver lining to come out of all the extra time we have spent at home over the last 12 months is that we have learnt how to make the most out of the space we have! We’ve been looking at some modern trends for making kids' rooms more functional and entertaining spaces.

Kids need their own space to play, work and rest. Creating zones helps to encourage them to use different areas for different activities. This unicorn themed loft bed painted in Fusion Mineral Paint’s Laurentian and Raw Silk has a seating and play area underneath it, perfect for a small room. This bed can grow with the child too – if they grow out of unicorns, just remove the soft furnishings and voila – there is a simple white and green/blue loft bed!
Pastels will continue to be a theme through 2021. The great thing about pastels is they lend themselves to being gender neutral and are great option for all ages. Tones for Tots by Fusion are gorgeous pastel shades especially designed with young ones in mind– and with low zero VOCs they are kid friendly (as are all Fusion and Dixie Belle paints!)
Abstract art is modern and more grown up than having a bunny on their bedroom wall and something that can fire up their imagination and creativity! Abstract painting is also something they can create themselves! A while ago I demonstrated Fusion Paint Pours – it’s a messy but fun activity than results in one of a kind works of art that can be matched to their favourite colours. Or they could create their own pastel colour block art to contrast with a dark wall colour by painting over old, cheap canvas pictures.
Our kids are growing up to be much more eco-conscious than ever before. Upcycle furniture and other objects to save money and the environment. Again they can get involved with upcycling things themselves! Check out these fab upcycled vases and kid’s desk – both were renovated with Dixie Belle Chalk Paint.
There is also a move away from plastics and we are increasingly using more natural materials in our homes. Woods, wools and cottons create a timeless look that works for all ages.
Anyone with young kids knows that their play centres can be big and out of keeping with the rest of the house – but kids love them. With some elbow grease and a lick of paint you can transform them into something you’re happy to show off for years to come! A great example of that is this Ikea Play Kitchen which has been painted in chalk paints by Jenny Hughes from Hello Hughes. Just gorgeous!

It's Magic!
In the spotlight this week is Zdena Billinge with this amazing chest of drawers that were painted for a young Harry Potter fan! Zdena used the following products on her fab creation - Fusion Mineral Paint in AshPrairie SunsetCranberryChocolatePark BenchMidnight Blue and Cathedral TaupeFusion Metallics in Brushed Steel and Bronze, and Fusion’s Hemp Oil and Tough Coat on the top of drawers. She created the light blue with a custom mix of Midnight Blue and Picket Fence.
It is so effective – it really looks like it belongs in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter! Thanks so much for sharing with us, Zdena!
