Nooky Gossip 22! Keep Your Paints Warm This Winter! Posh Chalk Pigments! Gemstone Mousse! Eternal Decor Wax! Stick and Style Stencils! Bureau Makeover! Dixie Belle Magazine!

Baby It's Cold Outside

When it’s this cold it’s important to keep your paints at suitable temperatures. You should NEVER let Dixie Belle Paint freeze as it spoils – so if you’re currently storing your Dixie Belle paints in the shed or cold outbuilding, make sure you are insulating it in a big warm blanket or, if you can, bring them indoors into the warm!

The temperature also impacts how paint cures and dries. The ideal temperature for painting is between 10°C and 18°C. Below 8°C paint won't cure at all! Above 18°C paint starts drying too quickly and drags. Paint also need needs to get up to room temperature before being used otherwise it will be very hard to work with.

The Shabby Nook unit is freezing in the winter and boiling hot in the summer - it's built out of pre-fab concrete, not known for it's insulation abilities! I've invested in this fab thermostat from Amazon to keep an eye on the temperature and humidity of the unit. It also tells me the temperature over the last 24 hours - so I can see if it has dipped below 8°C during the night whilst projects are drying. I'm about to install an infra-red heat panel. This will help to keep things at a constant temperature in the unit. The great thing about infra-red heat panels is that they heat objects rather than the air.

If you work in a shed, unheated conservatory, a single skin workshop or similar I strongly advise investing in an infrared heating system with a thermostat. It is the best way to keep consistent heat and the ideal environment for storing and using paint. That way we can all keep painting all year round!

Posh Chalk Pigments!
These versatile pigments are fine metallic powder pigments suitable for crafts, epoxy resin projects, acrylic paint pours and so much more. You just need to add a small amount to your favourite top coat for a molten liquid metallic paint that is so easy to use and looks amazing! Or, you can sprinkle some directly onto you project and then use a sealant.

Beautiful Bureau!

Facebook Group member, Anne Marie Taylor, transformed this bureau into a romantic masterpiece! Anne Marie painted the bureau with Dixie Belle's Silk Paint in Baja Grey and Conch mixed with a little of Dixie Belle's Chalk Paint in Fluff. She then embellished it with Gemstone Mousse in Diamond mixed with Garnet (making a lush rose gold colour), WoodUBend moulds, and a transfer. Anne Marie used Gator Hide to seal the hinges and handles, and Dixie Belle’s Satin Top Coat to seal everything else. Anne Marie says 'this piece took many hours and lot of attention to detail and meticulous work' to finish. All that hard work certainly paid off, it looks bloomin’ gorgeous!
