Nooky Gossip 12: Trends for 2021! Multi-use Spaces! Natural Colours! Upcycling! Colourful Accents! Garden Gate Makeover!

Forward Thinking

One of our big family projects over the next year will be to future proof our home by converting our two-storey garage into a multi-use space that we can use for storage/ utility/ office space downstairs, and a den for the kids upstairs. This space will also have the potential to be somewhere for our parents to live in the future. With the pandemic and all the homeworking and extra time we've had with family this year, we have all been more aware of our living and workspaces. There is a real need for more flexible, multi-use spaces that are functional but also make us feel good. And this got me thinking about what 2021 may bring to wonderful world of interior design and painty peeps!

I recently read a fab article from Houzz reporting on the expected trends from the Maison & Objet Digital Fair - and there were some lovely ideas for upcoming trends that I wanted to share with you all you Nooky Gossipers so we can be ahead of the game!

The Natural World

One key trend they highlighted is a return to raw, natural colours and materials such as earthy palettes, woody spectrums and warming, muted colours. How gorgeous are these fabric samples from Libeco Home? We have lots of paints that will match these muted tones perfectly - like Gravel RoadCape Current, & Sun Kissed. And soon we will supply Autentico Velvet Paint directly to our lovely customers - this range includes fab natural colours!

Reuse

Houzz reports that durability and recycling will continue as a trend – great news for all us upcyclers! Whether you’re being eco-conscious or watching the pennies, home projects can use a mix of the old and new to bring décor up to date. Instead of buying new stuff, revive an old chair with chalk paints from Dixie Belle or Fusion, or make a plain chest of drawers more interesting and unique with a lick of paint and a pretty transfer. Get creative and think outside the box!

Colourful Accents

As we have all spent A LOT of time at home during the pandemic, we want to inject more humour and joy into our interior design to lift our spirits! Houzz suggests we do this by having brightly coloured pieces dotted around the home - from artwork to statement pieces of furniture. These can all lift a room and make it feel just that bit more special. Check out bright paints on our site!

'Serenity' in an English Country Garden!

Speaking of brightening things up - look at this fab garden gate painted by Facebook group member and repeat ‘in the Spotlight-er’ Connie Clarke! Connie says, ‘a few months ago I’d painted it using an awful green paint which hadn’t even covered it after 3 coats.’ So, she completely transformed it using the aptly named ‘Serenity’ from Dixie Belle’s Silk All-In-One Paint. It looks blooming gorgeous! What’s more, it only took ONE COAT of paint to cover it! Connie loves the colour and says, ‘the finish is excellent.’ Great job, Connie!
